Short Blog 2 – Loblaw Grocereterias

The above is a picture of Loblaw Groceterias on 511 Yonge Street. This was one of the first Loblaws stores opened by Theodore Pringle Loblaw and J. Milton Cork in 1919 with a mission to “sell for less.” These small grocery stores gradually transformed into an enormous franchise with over 2,000 stores in Canada. This picture is inspiring, as it reminds us that Toronto has housed, nurtured, and promoted the growth of millions of ambitious, idealistic dreams just like this one, and continues to do so to this day. It’s a comforting symbol for anyone with a goal in mind, as it illustrates just how much is possible in the city.

Hey Rekha, what a great photo you chose! There’s something about this Loblaws that is very aesthetically pleasing, and it makes for a stunning picture. It was very interesting to see how one of today’s biggest supermarket chains started from something so small and basic, and within our own city as well. It was also really smart to use this seemingly meaningless photo as a source of inspiration for citizens and companies of Toronto to chase after their goals with your final few sentences there.
